Imagine this (this is how one of our kids invites us on a daily basis into her imaginairy world, and now I'm trying the same with you), you are on your way to a friend. It's a 40 minute walk and although you don't really like walking in the winter, you know you have the get moving. You're almost turning 40 and you need to start excersising. So instead of the bike or the bus you decide to walk. You try to enjoy the walk despite the fact that it is cold and grey. It's not easy, but you manage to set your mind on other things but work and endless to-do lists.
And then, all of a sudden the ground in front of you cracks. You freeze, with surprise in your eyes and shock. What is happening? And before you can really think clearly about what just happened the ground underneath you dissapears and after a long free fall you hit the ground. That was it. No more thoughts, no more walks, no more to-do lists. This - was - it.
If such a particular situation would happen to me, I think one of my first thought would be: it's the end of times! The earth swollowing up it's inhabitants, as if it is alive.
I thought today, whilst I was biking at this incident in Japan. A huge sinkhole swollowed a truck driver (and his truck) and he is no where to be found. End of his story.
Some Christians can be so obsessed with the end times, all that could happen that we do not know of. A lot of others, that might consider themselves agnost or atheist do not even want to think about such a mad idea of an 'end time'. But, we all have to face the end of our time. The sooner or later our time here is up. That might happen in a crazy event like it happened with the truck driver or it will happen after a sickbed or in your sleep or in whatever kind of way.
I like to talk to people and one particular day I asked random people on the street if they would know where they would be going after they die. And I was surprised by the amount of people that had never thought about that question. Time is relative, but we know for sure that our time here is short. We might should give it some more thought: the end of our time.
